Some people disagree with using flouride because to much of it can cause brown spots on your teeth. My take on this is that all the hurt is compensated with by the amazing effect of strengthing teeth. I also believe that aslong as you dont have to much of it in your water, you should be just fine. Many technological advances have been made in toothpaste and in mouthwashes to make it more effective and safe for the public, among these, Crest came up with a compound that contained the ability to hold flouride in tact with another element. In this case they used stannous fluoride with calcium pyrophosphate. The most recent of these advances was the debut of sodium flouride in 1982 when Crest made the Advanced Formula Crest, which used a hydrated silica compound. To me, the biggest concern about flouride in my water is wether it is a health hazard. Many scientists say yes while many also say no. The health hazard is the biggest caution in my mind because it might not just be affecting our teeth, which we can live without. It may be effecting our brains which we most certainly cannot live without. In some studies it has been shown that flouride in our water can lead to alzheimers, and even add in kids.(www.fluoridation.com/brain.htm) In all, I feel that flouride has worked for many years and it will continue for many more. This does not mean that we dont need a new method of teeth preservation, in time we will. But for the time being I think that flouride has us covered.
